Judge rules Michael Jackson's mom, kids must pay AEG court cost

Katherine Jackson: Michael's mother, 82, was deposed for nine hours over three days by AEG Live lawyers. As the guardian of her son's three children, she is a plaintiff in the wrongful death lawsuit against the company that promoted Michael Jackson's comeback concerts.

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Michael Jackson's mother and three children may be on the hook for $800,000 if they lose their appeal of the AEG wrongful death verdict, a judge ruled Monday.
Katherine Jackson and grandchildren Prince, Paris and Blanket would have to personally pay the money, because California law prohibits her lawyers, who footed much of her legal costs in the lawsuit, from paying it.
The Jacksons sued the concert promoter, accusing the company of responsibility in the pop icon's 2009 death because it hired, retained or supervised the doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter. A jury rejected their case after a six-month trial last year.
AEG Live lawyers initially asked for $1.2 million from the Jacksons, but Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos ordered them to resubmit their claim with $400,000 in expenses removed.
The Jacksons will not have to pay the $800,000 until their appeal is concluded and only if they lose. A California appeals court will hear arguments on the case in November, but it could be years before the judgment is final.
Jackson's mother and children are the only beneficiaries to the trust funded by his estate.
Palazuelos denied the Jacksons' request for a new trial in January.
Jackson lawyers argued the verdict form used by the jury was faulty and that the judge erred by refusing to let them pursue a negligence claim independent of the hiring case.

La decisione. La mamma di Michael Jackson, Katherine, dovrà pagare oltre 800mila dollari in spese processuali dopo la causa intentata senza successo contro l'Aeg Live, la società di promoting che la donna accusava di omicidio colposo di Jacko. Nel corso del processo Katherine Jackson non è riuscita a dimostrare che i dirigenti della Aeg, società che avrebbe dovuto organizzare il tour del Re del Pop prima della sua prematura scomparsa, fossero colpevoli della morte dell'autore di “Thriller” avvenuta nel 2009, in quanto responsabili della scelta di un medico incapace di assistere il figlio, Conrad Murray. La sentenza, presa nell'ottobre del 2013, ha scagionato completamente la società dalle accuse che le erano state rivolte e gli imputati hanno successivamente chiesto al giudice di condannare Katherine Jackson al pagamento delle spese legali, che in un primo momento ammontavano a circa 1,2 milioni di dollari. In un secondo momento i manager dell'Aeg hanno rivisto i conti e la Corte Superiore di Los Angeles, per mano del giudice Yvette Palazuelos, ha condannato Katherine Jackson al pagamento di 800mila dollari.

La battaglia. Ma la guerra tra la mamma di Michael Jackson ed i responsabili dell'Aeg Live potrebbe non essere ancora conclusa, visto che l'avvocato della donna, Kevin Boyle, ha dichiarato di essere impegnato nella revisione di alcuni documenti in vista di un possibile ricorso in appello. Katherine sembra ancora decisa a dimostrare che la Aeg sia responsabile per aver deciso di affidare Michael Jackson alle cure di Conrad Murray, il medico poi condannato per omicidio colposo per la morte del Re del pop, ucciso da una dose letale di Propofol, un potente anestetico.
