What's a face worth? Or a look? Or a dance move?
When it comes to Michael Jackson, there's a huge difference between how the government values his image and what his family thinks the likeness of the "Man in the Mirror" is worth.
About $434 million to be exact.
There's a big disparity over Jackson's image, as well as his recording legacy. The estate said the taxable value of the singer's image and likeness was $2,105 — while the IRS says it's more like $434 million. The estate's stake in Jackson's recording assets was valued at $469 million by the IRS, but was not even included in the 2009 estate filing.
The Internal Revenue Service says that the Michael Jackson estate owes $702 million in federal taxes, plus penalties, according to charges the agency brought in U.S. Tax Court.
IRS representatives say the estate has undervalued the late "King of Pop's" assets by hundreds of millions of dollars, amounts they say were not disclosed in a court challenge the estate filed in July, as a response to a bill from the IRS.
Essentially, the estate is saying Jackson's legacy is worth considerably less than the tax agency believes it is.
"Every estate wants to lowball the value of assets," said Alex Raskolnikov, a professor at Columbia Law School, who specializes in tax law. "The amount of tax an estate has to pay is based on the value of the assets."
Raskolnikov told NBCNews.com that there is no magic formula the IRS uses to determine the value of assets. "Every time there is a valuation of substantial assets, they will use a panel of experts."
He said, for example, if artwork is involved, the tax authorities will consult a number of experts in the field to put a value on the assets. "For estate tax purposes, it is 100 percent reviewed by a panel of experts," which issues annual reports
But, when it comes to a likeness or image of a celebrity, as opposed to physical assets, Raskolnikov said, "it is prone to disagreement.
"If they (Jackson estate) do not settle, the IRS will get its experts and the family will get theirs and there will be different valuations."
Then the case will probably go to federal tax court, he said, "although, given the valuations, I do not think the family will want to go to court," Raskolnikov said.
Jackson died on June 25, 2009, which is the date of the estate's tax return, and left his estate to his mother Katherine, his three children and various charities. The filing the estate submitted indicated that his estate was valued at $7 million, for tax purposes. But in May the IRS said that was deficient by $505.1 million, plus penalties of $196.9 million. Tax Court documents indicating the amounts were released Tuesday, said Reuters.
A spokesperson for the Jackson estate disputed the IRS's appraisals, telling Reuters that they were "based on speculative and erroneous assumptions unsupported by the facts or law."
So far, the Jackson estate has paid $100 million in taxes, said the spokesperson.
But as per Tax Court rules, the estate will not have to pay any taxes or penalties unless the court rules in favor of the IRS.

Il Dr.Murray, colui che dice di conoscere la verità, colui che dice che se parlasse farebbe scoppiare una bomba...ha deciso di parlare ad una segreteria telefonica!Cosa fa? Spara i colpi? Come quando inizia uno spettacolo pirotecnico? Pam...pam...pam
2) Questo messaggio , come gli altri, è stato lasciato sulla segreteria di un'amico che prontamente lo ha girato a TMZ.
Bene, ci è stato detto che, a causa di carenza di personale per scortare il Dr.Murray al telefono e riportarlo in cella, al nostro dottore è stato dato un cellulare con il quale può effettuare chiamate a carico del destinatario e che le chiamate effettuate sono controllate visto che sanno chi chiama, ciò significa che il ricevente deve accettare la chiamata al momento della risposta, secondo voi le segreterie telefoniche accettano le chiamate a carico del destinatario?
Dal mio punto di vista il Dr.Murray chiama l'amico che a sua volta registra la telefonata.
3) In tutte le registrazioni si sentono dei rumori di fondo, in questa si sente qualcuno che 'ciabatta' su e giù, il rumore tipico di chi maneggia tazze o piatti e posate e gente che parla, gli squilli di un telefono. Se il messaggio è registrato da una segreteria ...dov'è il Dr.Murray?...al bar?... A casa sua? ...Nascosto in un resort? Oppure quelli che si sentono sono i rumori del luogo dove si trova chi ha registrato la chiamata?

Michael Jackson 'was not abusing paid meds'

Michael Jackson's medical records support the assumption the singer was not abusing pain medication in the years before his death, according to an expert witness.
Addiction expert Dr. Sidney Schnoll took the stand Wednesday in the wrongful death trial stemming from a lawsuit filed by the King of Pop's mother.
Katherine Jackson claims executives at concert promoting giant AEG Live were negligent in hiring and supervising Michael Jackson's former physician, Conrad Murray, while the singer was preparing for his comeback concert series.
Murray was convicted of administering the dose of powerful anesthetic propofol that killed Michael Jackson in 2009.
According to Schnoll's testimony as reported by the New York Daily News, the singer would have built up a strong tolerance to other pain medications had he been abusing the drugs.
"He would have to take a much higher dose of Demerol to get the [necessary] effect for the surgery," Schnoll told the jury.
The doctor based his analysis on medical records stating Jackson needed 100 milligrams of the drug to undergo a dermatology procedure in 2008.
The Connecticut-based physician is acting as a paid witness for the plaintiffs, according to the News.
AEG executives deny any wrongdoing.
Lawyers for the firm claim Murray was hired at Michael Jackson's insistence only.
The case continues.

Show creator Jamie King reckons that the late singer has guided their work from beyond the grave while some staff felt that he helped them create their latest Cirque Du Soleil hit.
Cirque Du Soleil members have claimed that Michael Jackson’s ghost has been haunting the Las Vegas stage show written in his memory.
Members feel that Cirque Du Soleil’s ‘One,’ which promises fans to bring them closer to the King of Pop with their intimate performance, is haunted by Michael’s ghost, which has been doing so for several months, while working on their new gig at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, the Mirror reported.
Show creator Jamie King reckons that the late singer has guided their work from beyond the grave while some staff felt that he helped them create their latest Cirque Du Soleil hit.
King said that he sensed from the beginning that Michael was with him all along and that he is not just the story creator and director, but that he is also the co-director of the show with Michael
He said that from the start he wanted to create a show that Michael would have liked to create himself, so he could not have done that alone
When asked if he could feel Michael’s presence around him during rehearsals, he said ‘absolutely,’ asserting that he didn’t make one decision that he felt Michael wouldn’t have taken.
Sound designer Jonathan Deans admitted that while watching the dress rehearsals he felt that Michael in the purpose built theatre at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.

Paris Jackson will remain in psychiatric treatment until the end of the wrongful death lawsuit involving her late father, Michael Jackson, so that she won’t have to read sensational headlines about the King of Pop, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.
Media reports circulated on Tuesday that said Paris was going to rehab. However, our sources deny the teenager will go to a rehab facility after leaving UCLA, but will be going to a psychiatric facility.
“Paris is doing better, and her doctors at UCLA are still researching where she should go after being discharged. It’s being recommended by her docs that she remain in treatment, and in a safe, controlled environment until the end of the wrongful death lawsuit ends. It’s a no brainer that Paris not have access to the internet, cell phones, and social media during the trial, since the horrific stuff she was reading about her dad pushed the teenager over the edge,” a source told RadarOnline.com exclusively.
As previously reported, Paris Jackson remains hospitalized after a failed suicide attempt several weeks ago.
Katherine Jackson‘s wrongful death lawsuit against AEG Live, contending the concert promoter was responsible for the death of her son, Michael Jackson in 2009.
Last week, Paris’ older brother, Prince Michael, testified at the trial last week, and told jurors complained that concert promoter AEG was “killing him” in the days before his death four years ago.
However, unlike her older brother’s willingness to testify, “Paris wants absolutely nothing to do with the case or the trial. She was becoming extremely upset in the first few days at UCLA when the trial was brought up, and causing her severe anxiety. Paris will have to remain in a bubble until the trial is over so she won’t harm herself,” the insider told us.
The trial is expected to last until August.

'They're going to kill me,' Michael Jackson told son

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Michael Jackson often cried after talking to AEG Live executives as he prepared for his comeback concerts, his oldest son testified Wednesday.
"After he got off the phone, he would cry," Prince Jackson testified. "He would say 'They're going to kill me, they're going to kill me.'"
His father told him he was talking about AEG LIve CEO Randy Phillips and his ex-manager, Dr. Tohme Tohme, Prince said.
Prince, 16, began his testimony Wednesday morning in his family's wrongful death lawsuit against Jackson's last concert promoter, AEG Live.
His first 30 minutes on the stand were filled with videos and photographs of Jackson with his children, but then the questioning by Jackson lawyer Brian Panish focused on the last weeks of his father's life.
Prince testified that Phillips visited Jackson's rented Los Angeles mansion and spoke aggressively to Dr. Conrad Murray the night before his father's death.
"He was grabbing his elbow," Prince said. "It looked aggressive to me. He was grabbing by the back of his elbow and they were really close and he was making hand motions."
He couldn't hear what Phillips was saying to Murray, he said.
Michael Jackson was not there because he was at his last rehearsal, Prince said. He called his father from the security guard shack telephone to let him know Phillips was there. His father asked him to offer Phillips food and drink.
Prince said that was his last conversation with his father.
Prince was 12 when the pop icon died, but he said his father confided in him about whom he trusted and didn't trust and what he feared as he prepared for his comeback concerts.
Michael Jackson's three children -- Prince, Paris and Blanket -- and their grandmother Katherine Jackson are plaintiffs in the lawsuit, which contends AEG Live is liable in Jackson's death because the company hired, retained or supervised Murray, the doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
Murray told investigators he gave Jackson nightly infusions of the surgical anesthetic propofol to treat his insomnia. The coroner ruled the singer died of an overdose of the drug.
AEG Live executives allegedly created a medical conflict of interest that pressured Murray to pursue the dangerous treatments so Jackson would be rested for rehearsals, while ignoring warning signs that his health was failing, Jackson family lawyers argue.
AEG Live lawyers contend that it was Jackson who chose and controlled the doctor and that company executives had no way of knowing what treatments Murray was delivering.

'Daddy's little man'
AEG Live lead lawyer Marvin Putnam is expected to handle the cross-examination of Prince later Wednesday.
It is possible that jurors will also hear from Paris Jackson on Wednesday, since Putnam could play video clips from her deposition in an effort to highlight any contradictions between brother and sister.
Paris, who was 11 when her father died, is not available to testify live in court since she is hospitalized for psychiatric treatment following an apparent suicide attempt earlier this month.
AEG Live attempted to compel the youngest child -- 11-year-old Blanket -- to testify, but the judge rejected its request after a psychologist said it would harm the boy.
Jackson confided in his oldest son about his business dealings at an early age.
"Prince has always been, even at 12, the little man -- Daddy's little man," Jackson chef Kai Chase testified. "He wanted his father to be very proud of him, which Michael was."
"The weight of the world is on his shoulders, the eldest, big brother and father figure to his siblings," Chase testified. "It's a lot for him, growing, liking girls. He wishes his father was here to give him advice. It's devastating to him."
Prince recently began pursuing an entertainment career, working several days as a "special correspondent" for "Entertainment Tonight" and acting in an episode of the television show "90210."
Michael Jackson's two-month decline
Prince was also asked to describe how his father's health changed from April 2009, just before Murray began his nightly visits to the rented Los Angeles mansion, until his death on June 25, 2009.
E-mail introduced as evidence and previous witnesses have told of a physical and mental deterioration over Jackson's last two months.
Show director Kenny Ortega and production manager John "Bugzee" Hougdahl warned AEG executives of Jackson's deterioration during a series of e-mails in Jackson's last two weeks, including indications he was unable to do some of his trademark dances or remember lyrics to songs he had sung for decades.
His makeup artist and a choreographer testified about Jackson's paranoia, his talking to himself and hearing voices, and his severe weight loss.
Associate show producer Alif Sankey testified that she "had a very strong feeling that Michael was dying" after a rehearsal 11 days before his death.
"I was screaming into the phone at that point," Sankey testified. "I said he needs to be put in the hospital now."
An expert testified last week that Jackson's downward slide toward death could be explained by the insidious effects of chronic infusions of propofol. The nightly treatments probably interrupted Jackson's sleep cycle, robbing him of REM -- rapid eye movement -- sleep, which is vital to keeping the brain and body functioning.
"The symptoms that Mr. Jackson was exhibiting were consistent with what someone might expect to see of someone suffering from total sleep deprivation over a chronic period," said Dr. Charles Czeisler, a Harvard Medical School sleep expert.
The trial is in its ninth week and is expected to last until August.

I suoi primi 30 minuti dello stand erano pieni di video e fotografie di Jackson con i suoi figli, ma poi l'interrogatorio dell' avvocato dei Jackson Brian Panish si è concentrato sulle ultime settimane di vita di suo padre.
Prince ha testimoniato che Phillips è arrivato alla villa in affitto di Jackson a Los Angeles e ha parlato in maniera aggressiva con il dottor Conrad Murray, la notte prima della morte di suo padre.
"Stava afferrando il suo gomito," Principe ha detto. " Mi è sembrato aggressivo. Lo stava afferrando per la parte posteriore del gomito ed erano davvero molto vicini ed egli gesticolava con la mano."
