On August 28, 2009, on Michael’s 51st birthday, the first Michael Jackson museum in the world was opened in Steffisburg, Switzerland. The museum is located on the grounds of restaurant Brasserie98 and maintained by the restaurant owner Thomas Käppeli, a big fan of MJ. The museum features gold records, handwritten notes and autographs of Michael, and a couple of his awards.

Although Michael himself never had a chance to visit the museum, he gave Thomas his blessing. During their meeting in Las Vegas in 2002, they discussed the idea of a museum. Michael was very excited about Thomas’ plans and said that they should work together. “Michael wanted to open the museum in Zurich and had immediate visuals: everything should then be covered with white tiles and blue neon lights,” remembers Thomas. However, due to various reasons the plans got postponed, and the museum finally opened its doors only after MJ’s passing.
