MICHAEL JACKSON: 30 YEARS OF LIES, ONE TRUTH

    Source: “OGGI” n.36

THE VISIONARY ARTIST WHO WANTED TO CHANGE THE WORLD

On August 29, 55 years after Michael’s birth, has been inaugurated the first statue in Italy in honor of the most beloved entertainer ever.

Everyone knows Michael Jackson as an artist of global fame, but only a few know the man and humanitarian.

For more than 30 years worldwide media have spread false and bizarre news about alleged eccentricities and weirdness. On closer inspection, one can find very few oddities and just one truth: 4 years after Michael’s sudden death some responsibilities are not clear yet.

The definition of “King of Pop” is an understatement for a man who created a new world with no distinctions between music, dance, video and message. Michael Jackson wrote songs which are poems, prayers, social messages of peace, defense of nature, brotherhood among the people of the world, pleas for abandoned children. He excelled in singing and dancing, aiming at overcoming the barriers between musical genres, bringing black music out of the Afro-American community by mixing in his original way various music styles. He improved and even invented some dance steps that became his trademark and that are taught in dance schools today.

Everyone knows his records in album sales and the critics recognize his artistic genius, but only few people know that he is the artist who has donated more to charities: $ 400,000,000 to hospitals, orphanages and 39 institutions for the protection and education of children, a figure certified by the Guinness Book of Records.

Yet when it comes to Jackson there’s a tendency to discredit him rather than highlighting his extraordinary qualities as an artist and humanitarian. It 's time to know the truth about a generous, sensitive, gentle, intelligent human being, maybe too kind, maybe a bit “naive”, just like the sick and needy children he so loved to help, but also too rich and famous not to arouse envy and greed . In the end, it was easy to affect him in his mission by spreading false news and allegations.

AN EXTRAORDINARY LIFE MADE UNLIVABLE BY ENVY AND GREED

Denigrating and slandering: these are the most effective means to thwart a genius who is also a messenger made vulnerable by his own desire to change the world.

The last attack happened one month ago, 4 years after his death. According to a British tabloid, some FBI files stated that Jackson allegedly bought the silence of "two dozen" young victims of abuse, a number contradicted several times by the media.

Many observers found inconsistencies in the British tabloid article when it was clear that the alleged “FBI documents” did not belong to FBI but were mere photocopies made by a private investigator with a dubious past.

The real FBI documents about Michael Jackson, dating back to the '90s, were published in 2009, showing nothing wrong about the artist.

Most of the media persecuted him for years with an unprecedented ferocity, reporting false and scandalous news but never the simple truth.

At the end of the 2005 trial, after months of testimonies that proved Jackson’s innocence, the news of the full acquittal of all charges (Jackson was not guilty on all 10 felony and 4 misdemeanor charges because no crime existed) has not been widespread with the same intensity and strength as the news on the allegations.

Everyone was ready to report negative, morbid and salacious news, withholding the truth.

Attorney Tom Mesereau explained in 2005: “This case is about one thing only: the dignity, the integrity, the decency, the honor, the charity, the innocence, and the complete vindication of a wonderful human being named Michael Jackson”. But the trial was motivated by fame and money.

SUFFERING AND FORTITUDE, PAIN AND GENEROSITY

To fully understand Michael's love for children and his social commitment over a lifetime, one needs to get back to his childhood: a numerous family, a strict and demanding (and sometimes violent) father, hard work since he was 5 years old, the lack of children play. The search for his lost childhood was prominent in Michael’s life, resulting in making the children’s defense his main purpose in life. His strong altruism did the rest.

Neverland was conceived to be an oasis of joy, to accomodate for a short time seriously ill children and their families. There were a cinema, a zoo, an amusement park, music playing everywhere, rooms equipped for medical treatments and even medical personnel for children needing constant care.

Everything in his ranch was fitted to give a smile to children in need, like the 2005 trial documented. Yet such generosity was used under the pretext for allegations and extorsions.

The first proof of such distorted reality is the gossip (started back in mid-eighties) about the progressive discoloration of his skin. Since then, Michael has been accused of wanting to deny his Afro-American roots (which he was very proud of).

The answer was simple, for everyone to see: the most severe form of vitiligo, a disease of the skin resulting in milky-white discolored patches all over the body where the skin lacks melanin. Over the years vitiligo has spread to Michael’s whole body, forcing him to take shelter under large umbrellas whenever he went out because his skin was prone to severe damage if exposed to the sun. At first, Michael started to cover the discolored portions of his skin with dark make-up, to even out the color, then he had to do the opposite. Vitiligo produces devastating effects on the psychological level, especially in black people. What could that condition mean for a showman like him?

Few people know that Michael was a cultured man, who loved art in all its forms. He loved to listen to classical music, to read novels, poems and biographies of great and famous people, like Einstein, Chaplin, Michelangelo. "I'm a fan of Michelangelo” he often told his interviewers, “he was aware that, since the day of his death, his art would have lived forever."

Katherine Jackson sued AEG Live, the company promoting the series of London comeback concerts ("This Is It") that Michael Jackson was supposed to perform. She is demanding justice and truth, but will she ever get to know what really happened to Michael Jackson?

While the trial is still ongoing, more responsibilities (and not only Murray’s) seem to emerge. Doctor Conrad Murray was convicted in 2011 of involuntary manslaughter for having injected Propofol, an anesthetic intended for hospital use only, into Michael’s veins. Murray acted out of negligence and showed superficiality and even medical incompetence in performing CPR on Michael’s bed and not on the floor.

Will more guilty parties emerge from the AEG trial? Perhaps those who, back in March 2009, convinced Michael Jackson to sign for 10 concerts, then added 40 more concerts in just one night (making a total of 50), without consulting him?

Or those who should have known that even the great Michael Jackson, aged 50 and after years of inactivity, would have needed several months of training and practice to get ready for the first show in July? Or those who allowed Dr. Conrad Murray to be hired as Michael’s personal doctor, without ascertaining his medical skills?

One thing is certain: Michael’s music and his messages will live forever, stronger than all the tabloids, stronger than those who always considered him a “gold mine”.

As well as the never ending love and gratitude of millions of people devoted enough to dedicate him a statue in Valmontone, Italy.

At the base of the statue, engraved messages speaking about a life spent giving joy and universal love: "Together for a Better World", "Peace and love for all humanity," "Respect, equality, justice," "A Better World for all the children."
