Fame has sent a number of celebrities off the deep end, and in the case of Michael Jackson, to the life of various controversies where in most cases he had to pay heavily. According to William Hazlitt, “when a thing ceases to be a subject of controversy, it ceases to be a subject of interest”. It has also been said that controversy is part of the nature of art and creativity. It is no longer news that the late king of pop, ‘Wacko Jacko’, Michael Jackson’s name is synonymous with controversy.

From the onset of his career till his death, his name had been mired in several controversies. During his life time, he had been involved in lots of cases which nearly ruined his career. He maintained that he never had a good childhood. He often cried from loneliness. As he said, was abused by his father when he was a child.

It’s a well-known fact that he loved children and was ever ready to be associated with them. The reason for this isn’t far-fetched. He missed out on much of his childhood years. That was the genesis of his paedophile cases.

His long list of controversies started in the summer of 1993 when he was accused of child sexual abuse by a 13-year-old boy, Jordan Chandler. Jordan’s father, from evidences, had intentions of extorting money from Michael. Even the boy’s mother was adamant that there had been no wrongdoing on Jackson’s part. This wasn’t the end but rather the beginning to the end.

In August 1993, the police raided his home and found books and photographs featuring young boys with little or no clothing. He was striped searched later on in the year. Jordan Chandler had given the authorities a vivid description of Michael’s intimate parts and upon strip searching, they were found to be true. Jackson never truly recovered from the search as he was humiliated. After all said and done, he settled with the Chandlers out of court for $22million.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. Michael was magnanimous to forgive all those who came out to testify against him, even his sister. She later came out saying, she lied against him because she wanted money. Michael was wealthy and famous and everyone wanted a slice of his wealth and be in the spotlight.

At a point, he faced charges of conspiracy to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion, three counts of committing lewd acts upon a child, attempted lewd acts upon a child, and four counts of administering intoxicating agents to assist in the commission of a felony. He pleaded not guilty and the case dragged on for a while.

Precisely on April 7, 2005, Ralph Chacon, a former security guard testified that he watched Michael Jackson perform oral sex on a 10-year-old boy who later collected a reported sum of $23m. He gave a vivid description of how the act was committed. This happened to be the most shocking and damaging testimony in ever growing paedophile charges.

Adrian McManus, a former Neverland Ranch maid also testified against Michael. According to her, she saw him kissing three boys in the bathroom who frequently shared his bed including the same boy that Chacon saw. She also said she was ‘shocked’ to see Michael fondling with the boy’s genitals. The ‘Home Alone’ star, Macaulay Culkin denied ever being molested by Michael Jackson when his name came up during the maid’s testimony.

The case turned dramatic when under cross-examination when the maid said she lied because she feared losing her job. The question is, was she threatened or paid to lie in the first place? Or did she genuinely see the lewd acts and was paid or threatened to reverse her words?

There are many other cases like this where he had to pay the ‘victims’ in out of court settlements. This brings us to the very latest in the child sex cases. Even in death, his name is still mired in such cases. Wade Robson is an Australian dancer who recently came out and said he was molested by Michael Jackson between ages 7 and 14.

He had earlier testified under oath that Michael was innocent. He alleged that Michael told him if anyone knew about what they did, they would go to jail for the rest of their lives. Wade was steadfast and ‘preserved’ the cover for years. Having carried the weight of long-repressed, emotional brain washing until the burden crushed him, he decided to come out and tell the world what really transpired when he was 7 years old.

We had all thought that upon his death in 2009, we wouldn’t hear more of his child sex cases. The circumstances surrounding his death caught the attention of the world but since Dr Murrad was sentenced, we didn’t hear much about MJ till Wade Robson showed up. Could there be a grand plot somewhere, somehow to keep MJ alive albeit negatively?

However, he is not alive to defend himself like before and Wade is claiming his repressed memories should allow for exemption for claims against his estate. The deadline has long passed. He is hoping to win the case, win some money and re-start his career which he said collapsed due to the emotional breakdown.
